Hindu friends and their practices

I am not very religious . Most of my friends are very religious and believe strongly in Hindu greatness. But, they extinguish lights on birthdays , climb Tirumala steps on the night of December 31 st. They think at 12 in the night, the day of the week changes. They wish Hindu athmas " to rest in peace." ( RIP) They do not bother to believe in what they are supposed to believe in. I remember Pathanjali K.N. saying " mana vsvaasaala mida manaki visvaasam ledu" But I say " mana visvaasaalu emito manaki theliyavu."

  1. Hindu religion is not uniform (can I call it pleomorphic, hetero genous ) it varies in every place and varies with time . The religion is flexible and easily adopts and assimilates over time . There are many gods and goddesses and it adopts new gods and goddesses every few decades. May be it survived for such a long time without any patronage because of these unique features.

  2. Hinduism is a wrong word, a name give by the English, for those people who have no well defined religion like Islam or Christianity. Hinduisms – one for each cohesive set – are characterized by some similar practices – old and new.. Telugus, in particular, are attracted by new trends and, in general, do not analyze their practices and the rationale behind them.
